2nd Annual Million Dollar Golf Shot for United Way of Washington County
HAGERSTOWN, MD (April 16, 2019) – For the second year, United Way announces the opportunity for you to win one million dollars. The Million Dollar Golf Shot presented by BB&T (dual highway Hagerstown) is a fundraising event that will take place on Thursday, June 6th beginning at 4pm at Fountain Head Country Club. All are encouraged to attend; this event is open to the public. One hundred percent of the proceeds are guaranteed to stay here in our community, and support the health, education, financial stability and basic needs of Washington County residents.
Attendees will have the opportunity to “swing for a chance at one million dollars”. By purchasing swings, (which are available for $25 per swing or $100 for five swings) each contestant attempts to qualify for the “Million Dollar Shot” round by taking a shot from the first hole. Any contestant who lands within 20’ from the pin will take away a box of ProV1 golf balls. The top 16 contestants, who land closest to the pin during qualifying, will then proceed to the final “Million Dollar Shot” round. Finalists will come back to the tee box and attempt one shot for a hole in one (regardless of how many qualifying shots landed closest to the pin). One million top prize is paid as a 40-year annuity only. Insurance for the hole in one shot will require Club Pro and witnesses to be present. If the shot is holed-out, video recording is required.
Sponsorships are available for this event. A flat fee of $500 for all sponsorships and includes five swings, 4 guest tickets, promotional recognition and event signage. A putting contest, live music, prizes, free food and drink, and other activities are planned. Register to attend or sponsor by May 23rd.
In 2018, no one was able to take home the one-million-dollar grand prize. The event, however, was a huge success. It drew in over 300 attendees and 31 sponsors accumulating $15,000 in funds that were raised during this inaugural event. The funds were directly applied toward community impact grants, supporting agencies such as; Reach, Washington County Commission on Aging, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Girls Inc., Boys & Girls Club, and Washington County Public Schools Education Foundation. Over $400,000 was awarded in community impact grants in FY19 alone. This year, the event fundraising goal is $70,000.
